PAID SICK LEAVE AND EXPANDED FAMILY AND
UNDER THE FAMILIES FIRST CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE
Message from Superintendent of Schools Mike Thomas.
As you are aware, on Saturday, April 18, 2020, Governor DeSantis
announced that distance learning will continue for the remainder
of the 2019-20 school year. Dixie County schools will continue
to provide instruction and assignments through paper packets and
digital avenues. To help students without sufficient internet
access, the district will be installing external hot spots at
DCHS, RRMS, and OTES by early next week.
The hot spots will allow students to download assignments while
sitting in the parking lot of these schools. Students can finish
work at home and return to campus when they are ready to upload
In regards to prom and graduation, I realize how
important these events are to students, families, and the
community. At this time, my goal is to schedule both events;
however, it is too early to make definite plans. I am also
working with the Dixie Education Foundation, the FFA, and
the athletic department to schedule their end-of-year
events. In mid-May, the Governor and the Center for Disease
Control should provide updates on when it will be safe to
gather in large numbers. These important events will be
scheduled as soon as possible.
I would like to thank our teachers, staff, students,
parents, and community for being so patient and
understanding during this pandemic. My thoughts and prayers
are with each of you at this time.
Hot Spots are now up and available for
student use in the front parking lots at Old
Town Elementary School, Ruth Rains Middle
School, and Dixie County High School.
Students log in with school credentials.
